Having gone gluten-free and dairy-free to reduce inflammation and arthritis pain, I’ve learned to read food labels to make sure there isn’t any wheat or dairy products in it.

You’d be amazed as to where you’ll find gluten. See, gluten is the “glue” that holds bread and other processed foods together. Even things like salad dressing – which isn’t made of wheat, rye or barely, can have gluten in it.

Not too long ago I grabbed a can of Campbell’s Soup. Now, I grew up, as many of you did singing, “Soup and sandwich, soup and sandwich, have your favorite Campbell’s Soup and sandwich….”. Wholesome, nutritious, right? Not anymore. While looking for the required allergy statement if a product contains wheat or milk, just below the ingredients, I saw “Partially produced with genetic engineering… for more information about GMO ingredients visit… WhatsInMyFood.com“.

On that site, once you choose a product, you’ll see:

In America, approximately 90% of all canola, corn, soybean and sugar beet crops are grown from genetically modified seeds. Farmers have been using these seeds for more than 20 years as they are safe, reduce costs and improve yields.

The ingredients in Chicken Noodle Soup that may be derived from these crops are:

  • Soybean – soy protein isolate
  • Corn – modified starch
  • Sugar beet- monosodium glutamate (MSG), sugar”

Wait a Minute!

Isn’t MSG what we’re supposed to avoid at Chinese Restaurants? And it’s in their chicken noodle soup?!

This is what’s making us sick.

It’s all the toxins and chemicals we’re ingesting in foods that are supposed to be “healthy” and good for you.

Shocked, I placed the can back on the shelf and later went to Sprouts and picked up some of Amy’s brand soups. “Wholesome, non-GMO and organic ingredients”. Now we’re talking! They have a gluten-free Thai soup that’s my favorite! (Picture courtesy of Amy’s Twitter)

So what should you do?

Don’t attempt to fix the problem – whatever ails you – by yourself. See a professional. And don’t ask “Dr. Google” either. There is no “one-size-fits-all” remedy out there. Each body is different and you have to let a professional diagnose your health problems. The team at Holistic Health Solutions is ready to do exactly that — figure out the root cause of your pain or illness and address the problem(s) holistically and naturally.
